-
- 1. Installation
- ---------------
-
- Super Art Pack Sound Files
-
- Standard Installation copies the SOUNDS.ALB (catalog of all sounds)
- to the \WINDOWS\POWERALB\ALBUMS directory (default directory). This
- file is updated with the CD-ROM drive letter specific to your system.
- If your CD-ROM drive letter is not D:, use this file instead of the
- SOUNDS.ALB file on the CD-ROM.
-
- All sound files are located on the Super Art Pack DISC 3. Ensure you
- have DISC 3 inserted in your CD-ROM drive before attempting to play
- sounds. Should you play sounds without DISC 3 in place, you will
- receive an error message. To correct this error, acknowledge the error
- message, insert the correct CD (DISC 3) into your CD-ROM drive, and then
- play the sound you wish to hear.
-
-
- Super Art Pack Photos
-
- Albums of photographs have names beginning with the word "PHOTO" and
- ending with a number. The first number indicates the series to which
- the album belongs. The last two numbers, if present, denote the number
- of colors used to produce the thumbnails. Photo album names ending with
- the number 16 denote albums with 16 color thumbnails. All others have
- thumbnails which use more colors. For example; PHOTO2.ALB and PHOTO216.ALB
- are catalogs of the same pictures, but PHOTO2.ALB has 256 color thumbnails
- while PHOTO216.ALB uses 16 color thumbnails. Due to the increase in album
- size associated with higher color palettes, we recommend that you load
- the 16 color albums if your system has only 8 megabytes of RAM or lower
- to prevent your system from operating too slowly.
-
-
- Using The PHOTO Album Files
-
- To use PHOTO1.ALB and PHOTO116.ALB we recommend you load the album file from
- the Super Art Pack DISC 2. To use PHOTO2.ALB and PHOTO216.ALB load the album
- file from the Super Art Pack DISC 3. If one attempts to use any of the PHOTO
- albums from DISC 1 an error message will appear asking for either DISC 2 or 3
- to be inserted into drive D: Inserting the disc called for will remove the error
- message; however, another error message may appear if one attempts to select
- a different category from the same album file. This problem does not appear
- on all systems, and can be avoided by using the album files from the disk on
- which photographs are stored.
-
-
- Error Message Asking For Drive D:
-
- PowerAlbum DISC error messages are not drive letter sensitive. That is
- PowerAlbum asks you to insert discs in drive D: regardless of what
- drive letter is actually assigned to your CD-ROM drive. Insert your
- discs into your CD-ROM drive, select OK to remove the error message and
- run the program normally.
-
-
- Adding Video Files
-
- If you plan on adding Video files to your albums, you must first
- run Setup on the enclosed CD-ROM. This will install the Microsoft
- Video for Windows drivers onto your system so that it may be used by
- PowerAlbum.
-
-
-

- This release contains a substantial amount of new functionality.

- the "Options|Styles" menu item for a selection.
-
- b. MULTIMEDIA SUPPORT.
- You can now add Sound (WAV) and Video (AVI) files to your
- albums. If you plan on adding and/or playing video files,
- you must first install the Microsoft Video Drivers by
- running Setup on the enclosed CD-ROM. You must have a
- sound card properly installed on your system in order to
- play sound files.

- associate pictures and sounds.
-
- d. REMOVABLE MEDIA SUPPORT.
- When adding pictures from removable media (e.g. CD-ROMs,
- floppy disks, etc.), you can tell PowerAlbum the name of
- the disk and it will prompt you for that disk later.
-
- e. AUTOMATIC ALBUM SCANNING.
- Have PowerAlbum flip through it's pages and display the
- entire album contents for you without touching a single
- key. You can select the types of albums items to display
- (i.e. pictures, videos) and for the number of seconds.
-
- f. EXPORT PICTURES TO NEW FORMATS.
- You can now convert your pictures to other file formats.
- See the Picture Export Restrictions section for a list of
- restrictions.
-
- g. IMPROVED THUMBNAILS.

- used. PowerAlbum will support video cards which can
- display 16, 256, 65536, and 16 million colors. If you

- order to get the improved thumbnails.

- picture) to the clipboard as text for pasting into another
- application's edit control.
-
-
-
- 3. Information for Calendar Creator Users
- -----------------------------------------
- PowerAlbum is fully compatible with versions 2.10 and above of
- Calendar Creator for Windows. However, in order to access many
- of the new features. You must run PowerAlbum as a standalone
- product. This is because the menu bar is not available while
- being run from within Calendar Creator.
-
- For example, if you wish to use a new notebook style, load your
- album from the standalone version of PowerAlbum, change the
- style and then save the album. The next time you access it
- from Calendar Creator, your album will be displayed in the new
- notebook style.
-
-
- PowerAlbum 2.1 can also work with albums from Calendar Creator
- for Windows, version 1.00. However, to use these albums, it
- is necessary to open a New album in PowerAlbum 2.1 and Merge
- the old album into the new one.
-
-
- 4. Picture Export Restrictions.
- ------------------------------------------
- The following limitations apply to Exporting Pictures in
- PowerAlbum:
-
- 1) No vector image can be exported to a JPG.
- 2) No JPG can be exported to a vector.
- 3) No PCD can be exported to another raster format.
-
- We anticipate that these restrictions will not exist in a
- future release.
-
-
-
- 5. Video Import and Playing Problems.
- ------------------------------------------------
- If you cannot add or play video files try the following:
-
- a) Make sure you have installed the Video For Windows Runtime
- drivers as described in the Installation section above.
-
- b) If you are recieving error message #675, select File|Run
- from the Program Manager and enter "REGEDIT". Once REGEDIT
- is running, select File|Merge Registration File... menu item
- and select the VFW.REG file in your program directory.
-
- Exit Windows, and try again.
-
-
-
- 6. Problems Completeing Album Update After installation.
- -----------------------------------------------------------
- Some users may encounter a General Protection Fault (GPF) at the end of
- the Update routine following a Complete Installation. This is
- due to inadequate resource on some computers, and can not be
- avoided; however, the General Protection Fault only terminates the
- PowerAlbum program AFTER all albums have been updated. Thus, it is
- not necessary to reinstall PowerAlbum OR redo the Update routine.
-
- To return PowerAlbum to normal operation:
-
- 1. Terminate PowerAlbum when the GPF appears.
- 2. Exit Windows.
- 3. Restart Windows.
- 4. Start PowerAlbum (not the Setup).
- 5. CANCEL the Update Routine.
- 6. Answer YES to the warning message.
-
- Now load the albums as you would normally. You will find that all albums
- have been updated correctly.
